KINDS OF EXAMS



    • TOEFL: Test of English as a Foreign Language, it is necessary to acces to foreign university or school, it has two years of validity.

    • TOEIC: Test of English for International Communication, it is an exam oriented to bussines and profesional English.

    • IELTS: International English Language Testing System, it assest academic and profesional English in order to study in an University, it has a vality of two years.

    • Cambridge certificates: they don't have date of validity they are lifelong, these academic assesment are of a great recognition, they evaluate different levels.

      • Cambridge YLE: Young learners English, oriented to children in elementary and highschool. 
      • KET: Key English Test.
      • PET: Preliminary English Test
      • FCE: First Certificate of English
      • CAE: Certificate in Advanced English
      • CPE: Certicate of Proficiency in English.

Listening

- Recognize when people speak English and react in verbal and no verbal way.
- Understand when people greed and say good bye.
- Follow instructions related with class activities proposed by the teacher
- Understand the general idea of a story tell by the teacher when is supported with movements and change of the voice.

Reading:

- Identify words related about topics which I recognize.
- Recognize words and short phrases in English books, objects, toys and places in my school.
- Follow the sequence of a simple story.
- Enjoy the reading as an activity of reflexing that help me to discover the world. 

Writing:

- Copy words that I understand and use frequently in the classroom.
- Write the name of places that I recognize in an illustration.
- Answer easily   the questions “what, who, when, where” if refers to my family, friends or my school.
- Show knowledge of the basic structures of English.

Speaking:

- Answer greetings.
- Answer questions about how am I feeling?
- Answer questions about people, objects, animals and places around me.
- Use routine expressions to express my needs in the classroom. 
- Support with gestures what I say to make people understand me.

Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. Can introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she now and things he/she has. Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.


Understanding:

Listening: I can recognize familiar words and very basic phrases concerning myself and immediate concrete surroundings when people speak slowly and clearly
Reading: I can understand familiar names, words and very simple sentences, for example on notices and posters or in catalogues.

Speaking: 

Spoken interaction: I can interact in a simple provided the other person is prepared to repeat or rephrase things at a slower rate of speech and help me formulate what I am trying to say. I can ask and answer simple questions in areas of immediate need or on very familiar topics.
Spoken production: I can use simple phrases and sentences to describe where I live and people I know.

Writing

Writing: I can write a short, simple postcard, for example sending holiday greetings. I can fill in forms with personal detail, for example entering my name, nationality and address on a hotel registration form.

PROCESS AND REQUIREMENTS TO CREATE A BILINGUAL SCHOOL


It's necessary to present some documents which certificate that the institute is prepared to offer the educational proposal.



International bilingual school:

- The Operating license.

- Structured abstract of PEI according to Ley General de Educación in decree 1860 of 1994.

- Document which show links with official organizations of a foreign country.

- Document which show a direct financial support or sending foreign teachers for working in the bilingual school.

- Trade agreements to promote the direct contract of students with the foreign country



National bilingual school:

- The Operating license

- Structured abstract of PEI according to Ley General de Educación in decree 1860 of 19994.

- Teaching group, title and Scale National Teachers, 50% of teachers should be certified in B2 for an authorized entity.

- Description of the educational and media tools for each one of the areas and projects: the resources must be adequate and enough.

LEGAL POLICES

The following laws regulate the bilingual activity inside the schools.

Agreement 253/2006: Whit this the Bogotá Bilingual Program is institutionalized, it looks for citizens able to communicate in english with international standards, the aim is make Bogotá an atractive city for tourism and international investment. Plan Sectorial de educación 2008-2012: It looks for an education with quality, poor comand of the foreign language is one of the problems that it will resolve, for this reason it pretends to develop and improve the communicative competence in order to get the leve B2 of the Common European Framework in English. Tools like TICS, texts and immersion programs with native teacher are important to get the aim. Look more in this link.

GLOSSARY


Bilingualism:  is the use of two languages by a group of people, it also implies a socio – cultural linguistic behavior and has multidimensional aspects in order to communicate correctly in other language.  Butler, Y. Bilingual education: It consist in the use of two different language in classromm instruction, students get the ability to comunicate in two languages.



International Bilingual School: it is an institution which gets financial support from international organization, teachers are foreigner, the intensity with the contact with the foreign languages is high, more than the 50% of the curriculum, more than two languages are used in order to teach, texts and materials are imported, it promotes exchages with foreign countries, graduetes have to pass an international exam.


National Bilingual School: managers are native, more than the half of the curriculum has the intensity in the use of the second language, it promotes a cultural orientation, graduates have to pass an international exam besides to pass the colombian curriculum.

School with Intensification in foreign language: foreign language is teaching for about 10 - 15 hours a week, it isn't used to teach a specific curricular area.

BILINGUALISM AND BILIGUAL EDUCATION



1.   The national bilingual program (NBP) has been implemented  by Ministry of education, and designed for implementing some strategies to improve the language competences of the students, the proficiency of the teacher.  The Colombia government developed this project for teachers. Since 1992 the British Council has worked on the use of English around the world, the globalization needs and  in agreement with the Common European Framework, in Colombia was developed the NBP, this is a project from National Ministry of Education, it was created in 2004 named Colombia Bilingue,  in which are stablished some polices aimed at spreading English as a foreing language, in order to get the achieve it's important that teachers, public and private schools, and each level inside de educational systme have to commit with the rasing of the English communicative competences. This programm pretend to aim getting better employment opportunities for the colombian proffessionals.

     Technology is an essential tool in order to promote and improve the use of English and promoting the acces to the information. 

    We are future teachers, from now we have to guide our students towards the goal the MEN proposed, working on the development of the NBP, following the standards and propound strategies to improve the students' communicative competences.


      Nowadays to learn a second language it's so important because of the demands of the today's society, people are interested in learnt but there are some aspects that affect the acquisition of it because he learning conditions and academic requirement are insufficient.
